The Guy's Guide to Senior PHotos | Prep Guide
Photographing guys is much different that photographing girls and I get that. I promise to make you look like a guy, so relax!! I won’t make you do any girly poses but I may ask you to try a few different ideas, but the joy of it all is if you hate them, you don’t have to order them!
As a general rule, your mom and I want you to look your very best. So listen to us and I guarantee that you will be happy with the final results and possibly even have some fun!
Dress in a style that expresses who you are but dress nicely. If you aren’t comfortable picking out your clothes, take you mom, sister, girl friend or a good friend that is a girl to the mall and pick out of few different options. Trust a girl on this one!
I give you an unlimited wardrobe changes so bring lots of options. The more we have to choose from the better! This will also give us the flexibility to match your clothing to the location and backgrounds. Solid colors tend to look best. Try to avoid shirts with a small print or small plaid and tank tops. Bring a variety of color and mix the level of styles. Bring a black or darker gray t-shirt to wear under other shirts. Avoid t-shirts with large graphics or logos… They distract from the main focus, which is YOU!
I don’t expect you to get as excited about shoes as girls do, but bring a variety of casual and dressier shoes. Avoid flip flops or open toed shoes.
Please come to your session cleanly shaven. Retouching stubble takes a long time in photoshop. If your mom despises your facial hair, do her a favor and shave it off. I promise, it will grow back.
I recommend getting your hair cut a week or so before your pictures, that way it has a chance to grow and not look so “freshly cut”. Don’t make any drastic changes like dying your hair or shaving you head around your session date. You will probably look back at your photos and wonder what you were thinking!
I love props! Bring lots of them! Bring sports equipment (balls, bats, helmets, etc…), sports uniforms, instruments, cars, motorcycles, etc.
If you wear glasses, the safest options is to check with your eye doctor and see if they’ll loan you a similar pain without the lenses.
Please don’t be concerned with minor breakouts. I have you covered. If you are really concerned have a girl help you with some concealer.
Group your clothing together on hangers that you would like to wear. Including the belt, shoes, etc…. Please have your clothing wrinkle free and pet hair free.
Style your hair with a little product and hair spray, especially if you have longer hair. Fly aways are hard to photoshop. Bring a comb and extra hair spray for emergencies.
And… Most of all, be open minded! This is a not a torture test!! Relax and have fun! I promise it will not be a bad as you think it will be!!
Can’t wait!
